Self-centred

An acrostic poem for trauma healing

During a recent session, I recommend becoming self-centred to my client. I moved towards them in the virtual space between us. They, in response, had a visceral reaction to my ask.

We spoke at length about the societal norms and meanings often associated with the word. It conjured up associations of being selfish, self-absorbed, narcissistic etc.

I reframed how being self-centred in the process of #trauma #healing is a gift, and it is the antidote when every ounce of the lived experience is marginalised and minimised. This conversation inspired me to write an acrostic poem on what being self-centred could mean in the context of trauma healing. I invite you to find your words and share them with me in the comments below.

Somatic empathy by

Embodying sensations.

Loving-kindness

For-Ever.

Connection with self & others.

Enoughness

Never

Tied to shame & guilt.

Rest and co-regulation

Excitement for quiet & neutral

Dreaming new beginnings
